Dental Veneers in Winnipeg, MB

Hi, I'm Dr. Bryan DiMarco here at Renew Dental. We get a lot of questions from our patients about veneers. I'm here today to answer a few of the most common questions and hopefully give you a better understanding of what veneers are.

What are veneers?

A veneer is essentially a thin covering that goes over the front of your teeth to improve the appearance and form of the tooth.

When would a dentist recommend using veneers?

Generally, veneers are used when a patient is unhappy with the way their teeth look. If they're unhappy with the shade or maybe they've broken down, had some chips, or had some large fillings they're not happy with, then a veneer can be a great option to cover the front of that tooth and really improve the way it looks.

What's the difference between dental veneers and crowns?

A dental veneer simply goes on the front of the tooth and can be minimally invasive. We just have to shave down a little bit of the front and then glue it on. It's used more when we're making smaller adjustments to the teeth rather than when a tooth is really broken down. A crown, in contrast, covers the entire surface, so we have to shave a bit more down for the tooth. We use that when we're concerned about the overall strength and integrity of the tooth. The crown can help to improve that.

What is the process for placing veneers?

Getting veneers involves two main appointments. The first appointment is for preparing your teeth to fit the veneer over. Generally, we'll give you a little bit of numbing for comfort around the gums. We'll then remove a small portion of the tooth structure on the front of the tooth and take a digital scan to send to the lab to make your veneers. At the second appointment, we'll bond or place those veneers on the teeth. We'll remove any temporaries, clean up the teeth, and cement those veneers in place. Then you'll have your veneers permanently cemented on the teeth.

Will veneers and bonding cement match my tooth color?

Yes, that's a common goal when doing veneers; we want to improve the appearance of the teeth. We'll do everything we can to match those veneers to the color of the teeth. In more complex cases, I like to send the patient right to the lab so the lab technician can do some shade matching and make sure those veneers look as good as possible.

What are the differences between porcelain and composite veneers?

The difference is the material used for the veneer. A porcelain material is made in a laboratory. The benefits of porcelain are that because it's lab-made, we usually achieve a higher result in terms of cosmetics, and the porcelain material is stronger than composite, so it tends to last longer. Composite is our tooth-colored filling material used for fillings in the back teeth. We can use that to make veneers in the front. We'll do everything we can to make it look as good as possible, but we usually can't achieve the same level of aesthetics as porcelain veneers.

What should I do to care for my dental veneers?

The main thing for caring for your dental veneers is to maintain really good oral hygiene. Removing plaque and bacteria around those veneers makes you less likely to get cavities, which can form around them and require replacement. We also want to avoid chewing into really hard foods, as that could lead to chipping or fracturing of the veneers and necessitate replacement.

How much do veneers cost?

It depends on the veneer option. Generally, porcelain is more expensive than composite. As of 2025, the general cost estimate is about $1,200 per porcelain veneer and about $450 per composite veneer.

Are there financing options for getting veneers?

Absolutely. We work with a financing company at our office. For a case like four front veneers, you could finance it for as little as $245 per month over 24 months. If you don't want to finance, we have other options available in the clinic and would be happy to discuss them with you to make it as affordable as possible.

Does insurance cover the cost of veneers?

Unfortunately, because veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure, dental insurance usually doesn't cover it. However, many patients look into financing or other financial options, and we'd be happy to work with you to find a financial plan that works for you.

How can I schedule a dental veneer appointment?

Before proceeding with veneers, we want to get you in for an exam. Part of that exam is assessing your teeth for veneers and ensuring everything else in your mouth is healthy. We don't want to proceed with veneers if there are many cavities in the back, as cavities under the veneers would not be good. We conduct a thorough examination, review everything happening in your mouth, and then develop a game plan for your veneers.

I hope I was able to provide more information about dental veneers and answer some of your questions. Hey, I'm Dr. Bryan DiMarco here at Renew Dental. We get a lot of questions at our practice about dental veneers. I'm here today to answer a few of the most common questions and hopefully give you a better understanding of dental veneers.

What are dental veneers?

A dental veneer is essentially a thin covering that goes over the top of your tooth to help improve the appearance and shape of the tooth.

What problems can be solved with dental veneers?

Some of the main improvements with dental veneers include enhancing the shade of teeth if a patient is unhappy with their current look. If teeth are broken or chipped, veneers can help restore their appearance. We can also address minor deviations like slight crowding, turning, or rotation of the teeth with veneers.

Are veneers permanent or removable?

Veneers are actually a permanent treatment, meaning they are bonded or cemented directly onto your tooth, so they stay on the tooth and don't come out of your mouth.

What should I expect throughout the process of getting veneers?

Getting veneers is a relatively simple procedure that generally involves two appointments. The first appointment involves preparing the teeth for the veneers and taking a 3D digital scan to send to a lab for veneer creation. We then place a temporary veneer on the tooth. Between appointments, we typically have you visit the lab for a high-quality shade match with your other teeth or to determine a whiter shade if desired. The final appointment involves cementing the veneers onto the teeth; we remove the temporaries, clean the teeth, and permanently cement the veneers. You'll be able to go home with your veneers that day and be able to use them right away.

Will veneers match the color of my teeth?

Yes, if you are happy with the current shade of your teeth, we will do everything possible to match them closely. As mentioned earlier, we usually send you to a lab technician to ensure precise shade matching. If you're not satisfied with the shade of your teeth, we can also brighten the shade with the veneers.

Porcelain versus composite veneers. What are the pros and cons of each?

The main difference is the materials used. Porcelain veneers are made in a lab outside your mouth, offering a higher cosmetic result and a natural look. Porcelain is strong, so the veneers last longer and resist staining over time. The main con is the higher cost due to more steps and the expense of porcelain. Composite veneers are cheaper but made inside your mouth, limiting their aesthetic quality. They pick up stains over time, necessitating replacement when they no longer match your other teeth or meet your smile standards.

How long will it take to place veneers on my teeth?

This depends on how many teeth are involved. For a couple of veneers, the process is straightforward and may involve two appointments of about an hour each. For more extensive work, such as on the front eight teeth, expect longer appointments, possibly two 2-hour sessions.

Do dental veneers require special care?

Generally, dental veneers should be maintained like natural teeth. Good oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, is essential to prevent cavities around the veneers. Avoid very hard foods, as they may cause the material to chip or break.

How long do veneers last?

Composite veneers can last up to 10 years, though they may stain and require replacement. Porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years or longer with good care, though eventually, the material may chip and need replacement.

What is the cost of dental veneers and is there financing available?

Porcelain veneers cost about $1,200 per tooth, while composite veneers are about $450 per tooth. Financing options are available to manage the expense. For instance, four porcelain veneers costing about $5,000 could be financed at $240 a month over 24 months. Our office also offers other options to make treatment more affordable.

Do insurances typically cover veneers?

Because veneers are a cosmetic procedure, dental insurances generally do not cover the cost. However, we offer different options to make the cost more affordable and are happy to discuss these with you.

When should I schedule an appointment to get veneers?

If you are unhappy with your smile or have chipped or breaking teeth, it's better to address the issue promptly. Waiting can worsen problems. Acting sooner can preserve more of the tooth structure and may result in less invasive treatment, which will be more predictable long-term.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions about dental veneers and provide a better understanding of the procedure. Why Choose Dental Veneers?

As a popular choice in cosmetic dentistry, dental veneers offer a multitude of benefits that can significantly improve your smile appearance. Here’s how these incredible aesthetic solutions can transform not just your teeth, but also your self-esteem:

  1. Corrects Chipped or Broken Teeth: Dental veneers provide a seamless solution for damaged teeth, covering imperfections and restoring your smile’s integrity.
  2. Improves the Appearance of Stained or Discolored Teeth: If you’ve struggled with teeth whitening that doesn’t deliver lasting results, veneers can achieve a vibrant, even color that resists stains more effectively than natural enamel.
  3. Closes Gaps Between Teeth: Gaps or spaces in your teeth can detract from a perfect smile. With dental veneers, gap closure is easily attainable, giving you a uniform and aesthetically pleasing result.
  4. Aligns Crooked or Misaligned Teeth: If you suffer from misaligned teeth but aren’t ready for braces, veneers can instantly provide crooked teeth alignment without the need for lengthy orthodontic treatments.
  5. Restores Worn Down or Uneven Teeth: Over time, wear and tear can leave your teeth looking uneven or shortened. Porcelain veneers can restore their original shape and size, giving you a balanced appearance.
  6. Enhances Teeth That Are Too Small: If you feel your teeth are disproportionately small, veneers can add the perfect amount of length and volume to enhance your smile while still looking natural.
  7. Fast and Painless Alternative to Other Cosmetic Procedures: Unlike other treatments, such as crowns or orthodontics, getting dental veneers is fast and relatively painless. The procedure typically requires minimal invasiveness, so patients can enjoy a beautiful smile with limited downtime.
  8. Instant Transformation: With veneers, you can achieve an A-list smile in no time, making it possible to reveal your best self for special occasions or everyday life.
